Customer Reviews

It's like spending time with the best friends you've just met!
I’m enjoying these books so much.
~ Edward Brewer
Great job, again!
Ms. Dimond does it another time with this latest Black Orchid Enterprises novel! The story was intense and the dialog brought me right back to my time in Austin. Some of the subject matter was sensitive, but carefully handled. My decision would have been very different from Merry’s; then again, differences make the world go ’round.

Lively characters
Attorney and occasional pianist/singer JD isn’t a simple amateur sleuth. He has relatives and friends who paint Central Texas with colorful insights and dialogue. A major protagonist (or possibly antagonist?) is the Sphynx kitty who tears up the gingerbread at a holiday party, then plays a major role in the ultimate climax of this affectionate murder mystery. Enjoy this entertaining read about lively characters who don’t want to suspect each other.
~ Dr. Millicent Eidson, author of the Microbial Mysteries series
Love the characters!
I just love these characters. The author’s skill with words makes them seem to live and breathe for me. I already have every story in this series and I can’t wait for the next one.

Wonderful book
What a wonderful book is Family Matters. I enjoyed reading it, which was something of a surprise, since I have been skeptical of first-person novels. But you made me understand that the challenge of first person is creating a really memorable character to carry the weight of the story. You have done that in JD Thompson. His voice is marvelous. Sophisticated, often ironic, alternating between literary language and everyday talk without ever becoming affected. It reminds me that the South (and I think of Texas as having many southern attributes) gives more attention to the mother tongue than we laconic Minnesotans.
~ John Baird Rogers, author of the Mayfield – Napolitani thriller series
Cozy mystery with a sharp edge
Initially I thought it would be a quite light-hearted story, despite having some serious elements. That impression was flipped on its head by the end. It’s a quite serious book with a heavy leavening of humor and wit. The story is well written and has many powerful emotional moments.
~ Patrick Sullivan, author of Bound
Has everything
Hallow has everything: heart, love, loss, mystery, friendship, anger, resentment, and the list goes on. I feel good just having read it.
~ Amy M. Reade, author of Juniper Junction Mysteries
a wonderful read
What a fun read…. I laughed til I cried and cried. The characters are well developed and such fun. There are characters for everyone…young and old. And the author has insight for all ages. I loved it and am looking for #2!
